Michael Roche joined West Chester University in 2020 as an Assistant Professor of Psychology. Previously, he completed a predoctoral clinical internship at Massachusetts General Hospital / Harvard Medical School, earned a PhD in clinical psychology from Penn State University, and was on the tenure track at Penn State Altoona, where he earned tenure and the rank of Associate Professor before moving to WCU.
Dr. Roche teaches assessment and psychotherapy courses in the WCU clinical psychology (PsyD) program along with providing therapy and assessment supervision to doctoral students and teaching undergraduate courses. He is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of PA and maintains a small practice of individual and group psychotherapy. |
Dr. Roche is interested in researching personality disorder, interpersonal processes, and the use of longitudinal data to create personalized assessments and feedback. He has authored or coauthored over 35 academic journal articles, 10 book chapters, and 65 presentations and posters. He serves as a consulting editor for the journal Assessment, and the Journal of Personality Assessment. He is the president elect for the Society for Interpersonal Theory and Research. Dr. Roche collaborates with several NIH funded researchers, and serves as a statistical consultant on their grant funded projects (e.g. NIMH R21, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention) which employ EMA designs to examine patterns in daily life (e.g. suicidality, sleep disruption, interpersonal conflict, reactions to COVID-19 pandemic).
Outside of academia, I enjoy running (slowly), exploring new cities, listening to live music, and spending time with my wife Carley and our daughter Tatum.
